City Walk with guide

Go to booking / information form »

One of the nicest things to do in Edam is to stroll around the historic centre with a tour guide.

They’ll share with you the story of this fascinating place and how, in 1357, it was granted city rights.

Edam is one of the most picturesque cities in the Netherlands, with its charming canals, and more than 200 listed national buildings including the Carillon Tower, St Nicolas Church (The Great Church) with its beautiful stained-glass windows, and the Cheese Weigh House.

This ‘city of cheese’ is also famous for its shipbuilding history, wood trade, legislature, and mercantile spirit.

Of particular interest is the ‘Period Room’ in the Town Hall which can only be visited on a guided city walk.  Once it was the place where local officials passed judgement. Today it is used to conduct weddings.

Our experienced tour guides speak four different languages including Dutch, English, French, and German.

Tours can be booked through the Tourist Information Office ‘VVV’ in the old City Hall or by phone or email in advance.

Tours cost 6 Euros and last about one hour.
