The Edam Cheesemarkets take place every Wednesday from July 3 to August 21, 2024 from 10:30 am - 12:30 pm.
And an extra Evening Cheesemarket on Saturday, August 10 from 20:30 pm - 22:00 pm.
Under the watchful eye of the market master, the Noordwester Edammer is brought to the market by farmers by boat or horse and cart.
There they have their cheese 'placed' by the cheesemaker, who is also a member of the cheese carriers guild.
The trader takes a sample with a cheese sampler and inspects the cheese. Then the old ritual of praising and offering and clapping hands begins.
If the batch is to your liking, cheese carriers carry the cheese to the scales in the Waag. After which the cheese is charged again.
