Traditional Dutch cheese warehouse. On several of Edam’s picturesque canals, you can find several 18th century cheese warehouses. These attractively restored cheese warehouses have bell gables and are in the Louis XIV style. Although cheese is no longer made in Edam, factory-made cheese is still left to mature in one of the city’s old cheese warehouses, De Koophandel, on the Voorhaven where conditions are perfect. Also in the warehouse you will find a traditional bakery shop and a giftshop.
To find out more about Edam’s cheese-making past, visit the Cheese Museum. In the shop next door, you can sample and buy a wide variety of cheeses.
If you’re not a cheese lover when you go in, you will be when you leave!
